Marion FFA members had a busy March, demonstrating their leadership and career skills.

On March 15, Filomena D. and Rebecca V. competed in Leadership Development Events at the New York FFA Western Region Substates, having advanced from Districts in February. Emery S. and Aria F. served as 2 of the 3 FFA member delegates for the Western Region to select the final District President candidates for FFA Districts 8, 9, and 10.

On March 22, Marion members traveled to Penn Yan Academy for the annual Finger Lakes Invitational CDEs to compete among 450 FFA members from across NY.

Ayden P. competed in Ag Mechanics and placed in the top quarter of participants. Emery S. competed in Maple, where she had to demonstrate her knowledge of the maple industry, tools, and best practices for maple production.

Our Floriculture crew consisted of Ava S., Claire R. and Ainsley F. They were scored on identifying plants and tools, floral industry knowledge and their ability to make a corsage and wrapped bouquet to fit specific prompts. Our up and coming floral crew consisting of Lilly D., Skylar K., Ari F., Filomena D., and Sydney V., participated in a floriculture workshop where they learned how to make boutonnieres and corsages.

On the way home, we made a pit stop at Seneca Farms for some well-deserved ice cream.

On March 28, our Ag Mechanics team travelled to SUNY Cobleskill to compete in the NY State Finals for Agricultural Technology & Mechanical Systems (Ag Mech). Ayden P., Dylan B., Jenna K., and Mitchell S. made up our team and Cash M. competed as an individual.

Our Ag Mech team has been practicing all year to perfect skills in welding, electrical, hydraulics, machinery and equipment, environmental and natural resources and more. Results have yet to be released.

In addition to the competition, our Ag Mechanics students and Emery S. had the opportunity to tour the campus, meet the campus farm animals and experience the dining hall at SUNY Cobleskill.

Our team would like to give a big thank you to Ms. O’Hara for getting us there and supporting our students.
