Cora Muller, daughter of Jennifer and Richard Muller, was named the Valedictorian of the Marion Jr/Sr High School Class of 2025.

Cora earned this distinction by accumulating an overall academic average of 100.03. In addition to completing her four years of high school with the top average in a class of approximately 30 students, Cora is an active school citizen.

She served as the Board of Education Student Representative, is a member of the National Honor Society and also participated in Student Council, this year serving as President.

In the fall, Cora will attend Hobart and William Smith Colleges, majoring in Biochemistry and Pre-dental track. It’s a move she’s excited to make in large part due to the ability to maintain close relationships much like she did at Marion.

“I’ll miss the connections with my teachers here that I’ve been able to make and of course I’ll miss my friends,” said Cora, who attended Marion schools her entire life. “But William Smith is a small, liberal arts school. And it’s by (Seneca) lake … I’ve been there and I could see students there with connections to their professors, getting help whenever they needed and even getting invited to dinner with them.”

Also at Marion, Cora has been heavily involved in the music program through Marching Band, Select Choir, Show Choir, and the annual musical.

Cora has received many awards and distinctions including, but not limited to the Centennial Center Leadership Scholarship, the University of Rochester Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award, the Rochester Institute of Technology Human and Social Sciences Award, the Wilkes University Colonel Emerging Leaders Award, the Clarkson Leadership Award, and the Alfred University Outside of Ordinary Award.

Salutatorian

Alexis Schultz, daughter of Shannon and Shane Schultz, has been named the Salutatorian of the Marion Jr/Sr High School Class of 2025. Alexis has earned this distinction by accumulating an overall academic average of 99.77.

Alexis is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council, serving this year as Vice President. She has also been involved in many activities, including Colorguard, Show Choir, 4-H and Track and Field. And it’s her involvement with 4-H and Dairy Judging that drove her decision to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison this fall, where she will major in Agriculture Business Management.

“I’m a little nervous to be 800 miles from home, but there are so many opportunities and it’ll be cool to be in ‘THE’ Dairy State,” Alexis said about Wisconsin’s unofficial moniker. “I love the small-town atmosphere of our school and my friends, we’ve known each other our whole lives. Same with the teachers. Wisconsin is a big school, but the dairy and ag community is a small part of the campus.”

Alexis has been recognized academically by being awarded the University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leaders Award, Keuka College George H. Ball Community Achievement Award,
Rochester Institute of Technology Women in STEM award, the Chatham University Rachel Carson Healthy Plant Award and the Wilkes University Colonel Emerging Leaders Award.

Congratulations to Cora and Alexis for a job well done. They are a testament to dedication and hard work.
