There was plenty of rain falling on Friday night, but soccer goals were a different story.
The Marion/Gananda girls played to a 0-0 tie against Wayne County rival Williamson in the Section V Class B2 championship game at Newark High School. So the Marion/Gananda team is officially co-champions of Class B2 with Williamson, but both teams cannot advance so they went to a round of penalty kicks to determine who advances to the state qualifier.
Williamson won the penalty kick round, 4-2, which ended the season for Marion/Gananda. The Marauders advance to the Class B state qualifier on Saturday in Geneseo, where they will play Class B1 champion Livonia.
Marion/Gananda, in its first season as a combined team, finishes the season with a 12-4-1 record. Congratulations on an outstanding season!
