Marion Health and PE teacher recognized as a 'Rising Star'

April 27, 2026
Marion Health/PE teacher Nina Barbero was recognized last week as a Rising Star Health Teacher for 2026.
Congratulations to Marion Jr.-Sr. High Health and Physical Education teacher Nina Barbero, who was recognized last week by the NYSAHPERD Central Western Zone as a Rising Star Health Teacher for 2026.

The NYSAHPERD Central Western Zone conference where Miss Barbero received her award was held at SUNY Brockport on Friday. As part of the conference, Marion sophomores Ana Kellerhouse, Ashley Osborn and Peyton DeLyser offered "Connecting with Students from a Learner's Perspective," a presentation to current and future Health and Physical Education professionals about what practices work best to grow and strengthen relationships with students.

"They presented to a full room and their presentation was well-received from everyone," said Miss Barbero. "People at the conference were happy to be able to hear from actual students about what will meet their needs in schools."

Congrats to Miss Barbero on a well-deserved award for the impact she has on Marion students and congrats to Ana, Ashley and Peyton for offering their perspective as students to help teachers shape their programs to best serve students!
